Sonic Mania brings the classic 2D Sonic formula back with a modern presentation, combining familiar elements from the series’ early games with newly designed stages and challenges. Released in 2017, it was developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games and published by SEGA. Players can control Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, each offering different abilities for navigating fast-paced platforming levels filled with enemies, obstacles, and hidden paths. The game features remixed classic zones alongside original areas, new bosses, and Special Stages. Competition and local cooperative modes add additional ways to play. On PC, Sonic Mania uses retro-inspired visuals while supporting modern resolutions and smooth 60 FPS gameplay.
