Europa Universalis IV is a strategy and empire-building video game published by Paradox Interactive. The game maintains the same style as previous games in the series, with the main campaign beginning on November 11, 1444, one day after the end of the Battle of Varna, and ending on January 2, 1821.

The game is mainly set in the era of discovery and colonization of the new world. It begins in the historical context of the end of the Hundred Years’ War and the fall of the Byzantine Empire and continues through the French and Thirteen Colony Revolutions, concluding after the Napoleonic Wars.

However, during the development of the game, the player’s decisions will radically alter the course of the story, so towards the end of the game much of the world will differ greatly from reality.
