In this wild paradise where chaos and violence are commonplace, the player will decide when, where and how the events and situations that will arise throughout history will unfold. Far Cry 3 takes place on some island between the Indian and Pacific oceans.

However, Patrick Redding, a writer for Ubisoft, mentioned that an Antarctic setting would be possible for future games. The presence of a wrecked Mitsubishi A6M Zero at the beginning of the official trailer places the game somewhere in the Pacific.
